  3. THE BILL OF RIGHTS

  8. Amendment I
  9. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of 
  10. religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or 
  11. abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the 
  12. right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition 
  13. the government for a redress of grievances.

  15. Amendment II
  16. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security 
  17. of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear 
  18. arms, shall not be infringed.
  19.  
  20. Amendment III
  21. No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, 
  22. without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but 
  23. in a manner to be prescribed by law.

  25. Amendment IV
  26. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, 
  27. papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, 
  28. shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon 
  29. probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and 
  30. particularly describing the place to be searched, and the 
  31. persons or things to be seized.

  33. Amendment V
  34. No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise 
  35. infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand 
  36. jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, 
  37. or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war 
  38. or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the 
  39. same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; 
  40. nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness 
  41. against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, 
  42. without due process of law; nor shall private property be 
  43. taken for public use, without just compensation.

  45. Amendment VI
  46. In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right 
  47. to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state 
  48. and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which 
  49. district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and 
  50. to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; 
  51. to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have 
  52. compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, 
  53. and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

  55. Amendment VII
  56. In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall 
  57. exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be 
  58. preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise 
  59. reexamined in any court of the United States, than according 
  60. to the rules of the common law.

  62. Amendment VIII
  63. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines 
  64. imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

  66. Amendment IX
  67. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall 
  68. not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

  71. The powers not delegated to the United States by the 
  72. Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are 
  73. reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
